You
may bring along a ready-made picnic, there are
many shaded lawn areas. Please note that braais
and gas fires are not permitted. We have adopted
a 'Carry-in Carry-out' Litter Policy and request
that you take anything you bring or buy back
home for disposal.
Some of the Garden's special
features:
• Witpoortjie Waterfall - the surrounding
cliffs reveal the fascinating geology of the
area.
• Black Eagles - the only pair of nesting
Black Eagles in urban Johannesburg make their
home on the rock face alongside the waterfall.
• Succulent Rockery - a variety of some
of the unusual succulent plants of South Africa.
• SASOL Dam & Wetland - take a walk
along the boardwalk through the wetland and visit
the bird hide.
• Cycad Garden - a collection
of these ancient plants from all over South Africa.

of ponds and water-loving plants flows past
the restaurant.

How to enjoy a botanical
garden:
• Enjoy the tranquility
away from city noise, look at the beautiful surroundings.
Take pride in South Africa's indigenous plants and
animals.
• Ensure that you wear the correct footwear
on the walks and trails. Walk in a group, wear a
hat and take water to drink.
• Do not approach or attempt
to feed any animal, they are wild and your actions
could put both you and the animal in danger.
• Enjoy
a picnic in the Garden, leave only your foot prints.
Note our "Carry-in Carry-out" litter policy
- please take home everything you bring in. More
information. (link to 'Why are there no dustbins...)
• No picnics are permitted at the waterfall. 14000
pairs of feet walk there every month! The lawn is
unable to take the extra wear and tear picnics cause.
• The Garden serves as an important conservation area.
Our staff take pride in there work and we keep a
high standard. For these reasons we do not allow
the following into the Garden: Balls, bats, bikes,
kites, frisbees, skateboards, rollerblades, scooters,
fires, gas braais, dogs/cats, alcohol, musical instruments,
radios/CD players.
